Xcel Energy

Xcel Energy - in partnership with Energy Outreach Colorado - recently awarded Step Denver $128,000 in grants through the Nonprofit Energy Efficiency Program (NEEP). These grants made it possible for Step Denver to receive energy-efficient upgrades to our Larimer Street facility including over 50,000 new lighting fixtures, attic insulation, 65 new double pane windows, and a new boiler. This generous donation not only saves Step Denver monthly utility costs, but also provides our men a more comfortable place to live while they work on their recovery. Because of these savings, Step has been able to reallocate funds from operations back into the program.

“Step Denver recognized that this Nonprofit Energy Efficiency Program funding for new equipment would reduce utility bills and unexpected maintenance costs. The building is now in the best working order it’s been in decades, allowing staff and residents to focus on carrying out the organization’s mission.” - Brooke Pike, NEEP Program Manager, Energy Outreach Colorado

Through this partnership, Step also benefited from Xcel Energy’s Day of Service in September which brought together employees, family members, friends, and customers to volunteer on a wide range of projects with Colorado nonprofits - making a difference across many communities. Xcel Energy’s Day of Service is one of Colorado’s largest single day corporate volunteer efforts and brought 30 volunteers out to Step Denver for a much needed project! This is a prime example of how the leadership of a corporation - and the actions of people who make up a corporation - can make a lasting difference in their community. We are honored to call Xcel Energy a partner.
